    Alycia Meriweather is now serving as the Deputy Superintendent External Partnerships, Enrollment & Specialty Programming for the new Detroit Public Schools Community District established on July 1, 2016.  Meriweather was appointed as Interim Superintendent for Detroit Public Schools on March 7, 2016. Prior to her appointment, Ms. Meriweather provided leadership as the Executive Director for the Office of Curriculum since the fall of 2015.  She served the district as the Executive Director for the Office of Science Education for Detroit Public Schools (DPS) since 2012, and the Director of the Detroit Mathematics and Science Center since 2009.  Currently, her job duties also include managing the Detroit Children’s Museum and Camp Burt Shurly, both owned and operated by DPS.  She has worked in Detroit Public Schools for the last 20 years and is a life-long resident of the city of Detroit. Originally a middle school science classroom teacher, she has also served the district as a lead teacher, curriculum writer, professional development facilitator, and the Supervisor for Middle School Science.  Mrs. Meriweather is passionate about ensuring equitable education and unique learning experiences for Detroit teachers and students and has worked diligently toward this goal. Alycia is also very involved in her Southwest Detroit community and teaches as an adjunct professor at Wayne State University.  Alycia Meriweather is a graduate of Detroit Public Schools, the University of Michigan, and Wayne State University.
