    Kwame is the Director of Education at the Hantz Foundation and is recognized throughout the country for his innovative approach to revitalizing urban education. He serves as a catalyst for change in the community and is driven to help schools foster student engagement and performance, from Pre K-12.

    In 2015, Kwame Simmons became the first recipient of the BET Honors Digital Recognition Award. Kwame is the Executive Innovation Officer for the Education Achievement Authority of Michigan; where he is using integrated and innovative technologies to close the digital divide and revolutionize urban education. Kwame has a remarkable track record of success not only in the creation of innovative education but in the implementation of it as well. In nearly three months, student performance at one Washington DC school improved by at least a grade level, thanks to Kwame’s blended learning approach. Now 22 other DC schools are doing blended learning, leveraging technology and teaching differently.
