2016 Cycle I grants awarded to 5 Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) Partners

This summer, the Foundation awarded $82,369 to five program partners serving DPSCD children. The grantees are providing education camps for students, professional development for teachers, and a strong focus on music and arts. Congratulations to all of our grantees and keep up the great work!

The Carr Center Arts Academy

The Carr Center Summer Arts Academy will extend their educational experience during Fall 2016 through participation by students in “Day in the Carr” sessions of classes, performances, lectures and mentoring for students aged 7-18.

Living Arts

Living Arts in Schools provides visual and performing arts integrated education in 60 classrooms for 1st-8th grade DPSCD students. Students and educators choose programs that focus on fine arts, arts-infused teaching strategies to support arts, social studies, or STEM curriculum’s.

Sphinx Organization

Funding for Sphinx’s programming will grow the organization’s music education and enrichment programs in the Brightmoor and Southwest Detroit communities. This funding will support the Overture elementary school program to increase access to music education for 120 students at Gompers Elementary and Maybury Elementary.

Helping Individuals Succeed

The You are the Gift Leadership camp will receive funding to operate their 9th annual summer camp for 25 DPSCD girls in partnership with Wayne State University. Students learn leadership skills, team building, career and college preparation, life skills, self-esteem and character development during a 5-day camp at Wayne State University.

All City High School Marching Band

The All City High School Marching Band will receive funding to further develop and operate their music program which engages youth across DPSCD schools in the band. Funding will purchase new equipment and uniforms, and repair student instruments.
