For the second year, Crain’s Detroit Business invited former Detroiters to come home. These expats were treated to lots of information about the metro area, and they were given numerous opportunities to reconnect with the community. They were also offered an opportunity to support several non-profit agencies in the region. The Detroit Public Schools Foundation was one of them.

Through a crowdrise site www.crowdrise.com/detroitpublicschools, expats contributed in excess of $9,000 to the DPS Foundation. These contributions resulted in an additional donation from the Homecoming conference itself.  We are grateful for the support.

In addition to the dollars generated, this activity increased the awareness of the Foundation and opened the possibility for several new partnerships. One of the current staff goals includes a goal of increasing the number of partnerships that will result in expanded support for our students. Detroit Homecoming has thus provided an avenue to achieve this goal.
