Career Pathways

Not every student aspires to go to college, but a high-growth, high-demand career is within reach even without a college degree. Readiness training, mentoring, internships and employer partnerships are among the ways that students can explore and forge career pathways for their post-secondary education or occupation.

Workforce Partnership Initiative

This initiative, with early investment from United Way for Southeastern Michigan, the Skillman Foundation and JPMorgan Chase, aligns curriculum with local, regional and national industry trends. More than 4,000 students to date have received industry-valued skill certificates, student work-based learning opportunities, summer employment, social skills development, graduate assistance and more.

Microsoft Summer Program

A partnership between Microsoft, Grow Detroit’s Young Talent and DPSCD’s Office of College and Career Readiness, this program gives students an opportunity to spend their summer working on video production, touring local companies, practicing their interview skills and learning about business finance.

Cody Rouge Initiative

Ensuring quality schools, enhancing neighborhood conditions, community safety, and increasing employment for families living in the Cody Rouge target area, over five years, supporting over 520 Cody High School students, their families and the Cody Rouge Neighborhood was made possible by the DTE Energy Foundation, General Motors, the Skillman Foundation and Rocket Community Fund.

Randolph Graduates Assistance Programs

Whether they’re pursuing an apprenticeship or finding employment in the skilled trades, students are eligible for financial assistance for employment-related expenses such as training programs, certifications, clothing, tools, equipment and transportation through the Randolph Graduates Assistance Programs. Partners in the program include the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 9, Carhartt and the Home Builders Association of Southeastern Michigan.
