About DPS Foundation:
The Detroit Public Schools Foundation’s (DPSF) mission is to create and enhance educational opportunities that are equitable and inclusive for the Detroit Public Schools Community District’s (DPSCD) students, families, and educators by building strong community philanthropic partnerships and advocating for policy, systematic, and sustainable change. DPSF has worked collaboratively with the Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) since 2009 as its fundraising and fiduciary arm and has implemented and managed over 100 programs focused in several areas that improves education and serves the students holistically with priority areas being: education and literacy, health, science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM), workforce, college pathways, and experiences beyond the classroom. This is achieved by executing fiduciary responsibilities over donations, leveraging partnerships and resources, grant administrative management and fiscal and programmatic oversight. The DPS Foundation in partnership with DPSCD has established an exciting strategic plan with key fundraising opportunities for the next five years that includes a capital campaign, alumni engagement, supportive services initiatives, and major gifts.
Alumni Relations Manager Position Summary:
The DPS Foundation is seeking a dynamic, creative, doer, and passionate Alumni Relations Manager who will lead two yearly large special events fundraising, quarterly engagement sessions, and monthly parlor socials to engage alumni and activate donor stewardship as well content creation donor communications. This unique role holds the development team together by researching potential donors, creating a donor communications calendar, and supporting moving alumni into volunteerism and donors to positively impact children and families.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible for consistently meeting alumni retention goals of calling and/or meeting with 20-40 alumni monthly to obtain data for alumni records: using database for tracking weekly alumni outreach.
• Develop, maintain, and provide leadership and support for Alumni Connect which includes the recruitment of new members, membership dues, planning meetings, and enhancing the visibility of Alumni Connect.
• Meet with the Alumni Connect periodically to develop an annual strategy to target and increase alumni engagement.
• Coordinate and track regional volunteer activities.
• Use alumni data to develop compelling stories to inspire others to get involved for internal and external audiences.
• Develop an annual fundraising/expenses plan to support alumni activities.
• Create and develop our monthly alumni e-newsletter articles in collaboration with the communications department.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
• A four-year college degree or equivalent work experience.
• At least three years alumni relations and/ or education development/counseling experience OR
• At least three years of event coordination experience
• Detroit Public Schools/Detroit Public Schools Community District graduate is strongly preferred, but not required.
• Must be computer literate, comfortable with utilizing Donor Perfect or experience with utilizing a database.
• Key relevant experience in workforce development, college readiness, youth enrichment, youth education, social services, or human services is a plus.
• Ability to prioritize and multitask.
• A passion for serving the community and youth enrichment.
• Ability to motivate alumni to actively participate and engage.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and communication (oral, written, and listening) skills; comfort level in conducting outreach to alumni and business partners.
• Proficient in conducting analytical research and creating reports.
• Some evenings and occasional weekend work hours to facilitate, host and organize alumni social.
