Brewer Academy Library Improvements
When Detroit Red Wings player Justin Abdelkader read his children’s book, “Shoot for the Goal,” to more than 500 students at Brewer Academy, his story about dedication and hard work had even greater meaning. Abdelkader and his wife, Julie, funded the renovated space and reading program at Brewer Academy to ensure students have the resources they need to grow their language and literacy skills.

Learning to Learn/Grow Up Great
Grow Up Great, a PNC Foundation’s early childhood initiative established in 2009, has given thousands of students from across the district an opportunity to experience hands-on programs offered by Cranbrook Institute of Science, The Henry Ford, Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

Early Learners Intervention Program
Since 2018, more than 600 special needs learners ages 3-5 have received support and resources for a seamless transition into kindergarten. The Early Learners Intervention Program, supported by the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, provides Detroit’s Head Start children and their families with intervention programs for kindergarten success.
