When the fundraising began in support of Camp Burt Shurly, we knew that we would need the engagement of many individuals and organizations in the community to be successful in achieving our goal.  We have been fortunate to receive donations from a wide range of community leaders and businesses, but one special gift has come to us from the United Way for Southeastern Michigan.

The children of Detroit have had many positive experiences at Camp Burt Shurly this summer. The new climbing wall, books, legos, water trampoline, and other upgrades have made the experience more dynamic than ever before. With the generous contribution of $100,000 from the Nommontu and Joseph Handelman Foundations, through the United Way, significant physical plant improvements will be initiated. Next year the camp will be able to offer an even better opportunity for students to learn and grow in their appreciation for the outdoors. We are truly grateful for their partnership in this effort and for caring about the well being of Detroit children.
